What is Bash ?
Bash is the shell, or command language interpreter, that will appear in the GNU operating system. Bash is an sh-compatible shell that incorporates useful features from the Korn shell (ksh) and C shell (csh). It is intended to conform to the IEEE POSIX P1003.2/ISO 9945.2 Shell and Tools standard. It offers functional improvements over sh for both programming and interactive use. In addition, most sh scripts can be run by Bash without modification.
Why to learn Bash ?
So you might be wondering why learn BASH scripting? Luckily, there are many reasons and advantages for learning this scripting language but I will highlight some of my opinions:
》It’s a go-to for automating most of the work for developers and admins by writing bash scripts to perform tasks
》You will enhance your terminal skills
》It’s simply fun learning something new
Why is it recommended for hackers ?
Any self-respecting hacker must be able to script. For that matter, any self-respecting Linux administrator must be able to script. With the arrival of the Windows PowerShell, Windows administrators are increasingly required to script as well perform automated tasks and be more efficient.
As a hacker, we often need to automate the use of multiple commands, sometimes from multiple tools. To become an elite hacker, you not only need to have advanced shell scripting skills, but also the ability to script in one of the widely-used scripting languages such as Ruby (Metasploit exploits are written in Ruby), Python (many hacking tools are Python scripts), or Perl (Perl is the best text manipulation scripting language).
